Thank You Jerry Scherzinger, DVM
ARK Veterinary Clinic, Lopez Island
LAPS has had the very good fortune of having a veterinarian like Jerry on Lopez Island. He has provided care and compassion to our island dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep and an occasional wild animal since 1999. His “bedside manner” is impressive. He has been available for many emergencies, house calls and consultations at all hours of the day and night.
Jerry generously shares his Ark Veterinary Clinic space with LAPS for our posters, displays and “donation jar”. His clinic is also home to our Thrift Cart for pets (a mini Take It Or Leave It). Over the years, LAPS has co-sponsored many special clinics with Jerry that have benefited countless Lopez dogs and cats. These have included spay/neuter, rabies, and wellness specials. And, last but not least, Jerry sells dog licenses for San Juan County. This is probably the number one way that we reunite wandering dogs with their people.
THANKS, JERRY, FOR MAKING OUR WORK EASIER AND MORE EFFECTIVE!

Lopez Thrift Shop LAPS was awarded a generous grant from the Lopez Thrift Shop. These funds have allowed us to continue to offer our Spay/Neuter special price of $40 for a dog or cat spay or $20 for a dog or cat neuter. We are very grateful for the recognition of the work that LAPS does here on Lopez Island. A big thank you to the Lopez Thrift Shop and to all your customers who make this possible! |

Spencer's Landing Marina and Gallery 10
Spencer's Landing Marina on Humphrey Head collects seasonal moorage fees from boaters using the slips on a temporary basis. They put that money aside and at the end of the season they give it all to LAPS! In addition, Gallery 10 has a special spot for donations in her shop and also passes on monies from her "Sales Rack" to LAPS. Lopez Animal Protection Society has earmarked those donations to having dogs and cats microchiped! Dr. Jerry is offering that service on a voluntary basis to animals in his care. So that means that for only $20 an animal can be chipped at the same time as another service is being performed. The rest of the fee is picked up by the generous support of Spencer's Landing Marina and Gallery 10. Thanks to you both!!
Thanks to LAPS Unsung Heroes!

Ginger Lowell has socialized cats and kittens for LAPS since June, 2010 (or almost 6 years). About that same time, she started processing dog licenses sold on Lopez. This involves collecting the completed forms and fees from the places that sell them, doing a ton of paperwork (transmittal forms) required by the county, and forwarding them with monies collected to the San Juan county auditor. Thanks, Ginger, for your countless hours helping LAPS behind the scenes!

Vesla's Memorial
Vesla George was a devoted and tireless member of our LAPS board. She and her husband, Don, volunteered cheerfully and frequently for many projects including the maintenance of both of our Pet Waste Stations in Lopez village. They hosted our first "Cat Fostering Trailer" on their property where Vesla, along with many LAPS volunteers, enjoyed endless hours socializing cats and kittens.
When Vesla died in 2009, the LAPS board established "Vesla's Fund" in response to memorial contributions in her honor. Ever since, all gifts in memory of friends and loved ones are directed to this fund. Each year, these monies are allocated to a special project. These have included low cost microchipping, free adoptions for seniors, low cost rabies vaccinations and low cost spay and neuter procedures. This year our board voted to designate this fund for the acquisition of another facility for cat fostering. This would replace the old trailer we had used for this purpose which became dilapidated beyond repair. We are grateful for your donations that enable LAPS to continue her devoted efforts on behalf of Lopez Island dogs and cats
