Paying It Forward

Who says cats aren't appreciative?!  Cookie proves them wrong!

She was a little waif trapped on Lopez Island and brought to LAPS.  After no one claimed her in response to our posters and posting on LopezRocks, we had her spayed, wormed, flea treated and vaccinated, gave her lots of love, then offered her for adoption.  The very first day, Patty and Wayne Crinklaw decided they were ready for another cat.  When Patty described their house, deck and all the cat amenities, it seemed like the perfect place for this shy but affectionate Bengal mix kitty.

Ten months later, LAPS received a call from Patty reporting that "Princess" Cookie has been thriving, but she has some toys, treats and food that she no longer cares for and would like to donate to LAPS for other less fortunate kitties to enjoy - take a look at the loot in the photo below!  We thought this was a great opportunity to visit the sweet girl in her home to get some pictures of a bona fide success story.  Patty and Wayne absolutely adore Cookie and cannot imagine life without her.  They would like everyone to know that adult strays can become the perfect pet.  Cookie must feel like she has gone from rags to riches and would like to thank LAPS and the Crinklaws for all they have done for her.  She is still a shy kitty around strangers, but oh-so-much at ease with Wayne and Patty.  She showed us that she wants to pay her good fortune forward.

TEX

Tex has found his forever home on Lopez Island with Tino Tijernia!  His exuberant personality and excellent attitude about adventure and life has paid off!  He'll be with his new best friend 24/7 and can go for rides in their very cool truck - you may see him with his head out the window - one of his favorite things.  Thanks to Jane Albrecht for housing and caring for him while LAPS searched for the perfect Lopez home.  Have a nice life, Tex and Tino!

LAPS Kittens find homes!

All the kittens in LAPS recent care have found loving homes.  Thanks for all the interest and concern for these special little ones.  Having so many kittens required many volunteer hours, and our team of faithful volunteers made it happen.  From changing litter boxes, feeding lots of wet food, and plenty of cuddling, they all thrived thanks to their attention.  And a special thanks to our Veterinarian, Jerry Scherzinger, for providing care to each one of them.

The Lopez Tail of Two            Black Kittens

You may have heard about me before I was adopted.  I was called Juliette and my brother was Romeo.  Now I live with Tom and Elaine McDaniel and Elaine has given me a name I like much better:  Tinkerbell.  When we were little kittens my brother I were living outside, hiding under a house escaping from the chaos of lots of cats, dogs and people coming and going.  Our lives seemed precarious, and then LAPS picked us up. They took us to the vet for medical attention for fleas and worms and vaccinations. Then we were placed in a warm comfy room at LAPS Headquarters with toys and plenty of food. Lots of volunteers took care of us there.  The happy tails is that we both were able to go to our forever homes.  Lance and Lil Brittain have adopted my brother. They now call him Roméo Lopez de Haro. Why does he get the sophisticated name?

"Caturdays" with
Livingston &
Phoebe.

Recently I walked into the new LAPS office during an Open House, and a friend whispered in my ear - “There's a female kitten in the other room.  She's part Bengal.  The male is spoken for.”

Ooh, those Bengal stripes! Couldn't find a cuter set of kittens.  Then I heard that the male was promised to a friend of mine - Nikita Palmisani! My heart lifted.  We could do this together.

So “Caturdays” came about. Just about every Saturday for the past several months, Nikyta has dropped off Lovingston for a playdate with his sister, Phoebe. Nothing can play with a kitten quite like another kitten. Such fun to watch – I haven't laughed so much in years.

The kittens are getting older now, and both still love to visit together and then go back to their sole-kitty homes. The transitions are remarkably smooth - they practically jump into their carriers.

The only thing better than a bright, beautiful kitten in the house is sharing the experience with a friend and fellow kitten!

SOPHIA IS CLAIMED!!!

This sweet, 20 year old, Siamese mix female cat with tabby "points" (formerly on the Lost and Found Page) was claimed by Richard and Debbie Tetu!  They saw her picture here on the LAPS website.  They had been calling her every night, and looking everywhere. They are delighted to have her back.  Now she can sit in the sun again and enjoy her loving family.  LAPS board and volunteers who have been caring for her are happy for the wonderful Lopez Tails ending.
