LAPS IMPOUND KENNEL FOR DOGS
LAPS does not have a shelter for stray or abandoned animals, however, we do maintain a kennel for dogs. If a person who has found a dog and is unable to contain him, the dog is transported to the "Impound Kennel" located behind the Fire Station on Fisherman Bay Road across from the library. In this secure place, the dog is cared for by LAPS volunteers while the search for the owner continues. We usually post the information on lopezrocks.org, on this website, and/or make "found dog" signs if the other methods are not successful. This process usually is resolved within 24 hours but can last several days, especially if the owner is off-island and the caregiver cannot be found. When the dog is released by a deputy, the owner is required to have a current license tag. LAPS also asks for $15 per day for kennel care provided.
